This japanese vintage Hanten has a "Joy" 喜 kanji symbol in the back. The fabric has a denim feel with fabric patches.
Hanten is a kind of kimono worn by shop keepers or as a workers uniform. During the Edo period (1600-1868), Happis were only allowed by the superior social class "Buke"(Samuraï family) with the family crest on the back so in response, the lower class (farmers, manufacturers, merchants,etc,..) created their own Hanten kimonos with their original symbols.
This japanese vintage Haneten can be worn with more traditional clothes or as a piece to make your own style unique. We have a broad collection of Japanese vintage hanten and kimonos, check out our full collection of japanese vintage.
